Redwoods are some of the largest, most majestic trees that grow on earth. Mind boggling in height and girth, it is easy to forget that these are not simply formations but living organisms! Surely their roots must tap the very core of the earth. Not so! Clearly, the enemy of the redwood is isolation. With no other trees to help moor the enormous mass to the earth, its towering heights would work against it and it would topple in a stiff wind. To be a redwood is to be entwined into a community that helps it stand. Are you like a redwood? Will you stand when the winds come?
